Chinese Tourists to Phuket Often Wait to Fill Out Arrival Forms..

From the Phuket Gazette is the story today of officials trying to solve the problem of Chinese tourist congestion at Phukets International Airport. Apparently Chinese tourists arriving on charter flights are often not provided with the Thai arrival and departure cards required by immigration. This causes long lines of Chinese tourists to wait in line to get the arrival cards. Another problem is that there are no arrival cards written with Chinese instructions despite the fact that Chinese now make up the largest inbound group of tourists in Phuket.

Phuket airport officials want Chinese tour operators and airlines to take a more active roll in providing the arrival and departure cards while the tourists are still on the plane and to show them how to fill out the cards correctly.

Commentary: Sounds like a reasonable request. Most western airlines give you the arrival cards on the plane. Only once did I fly to Bangkok and the airline didn’t have the arrival cards. It is a pain to find them at immigration as often the cards run out and who wants to use their fun time filling out arrival paperwork???
