Gun Owners No Longer Allowed to Carry Guns in Tourist Area’s.

From the Phuket Gazette is the story of an order issued by Royal Thai Police that gun owners with permission to carry guns in public may no longer do so in tourist area’s. The order issued by the Royal Thai Police applies nationwide and is part of an ongoing effort to improve tourist safety.

It was also announced that security staff in gogo bars and clubs that face problems with customers must contact the police to solve problems with tourists instead of dealing with it on their own.

Apparently tourists in Phuket have complained many times of being threatened by security guards in bars and clubs. Police say if they receive reports of security guards attacking a tourist then the security guard will face a fine and possibly arrest.

Commentary: Hmmm… The part about security guards being told not to attack tourists looks good on paper until you’ve got some over the top drunk tourist that pushes one Thai button too many and ends up with a cracked skull or worse.
