Brit Charged By Pattaya Police for False Theft Claim

From Pattaya One News is the story of a 48 year old British tourist that was arrested by Pattaya police for filing a false statement. He went to the police to say that he had been robbed at knifepoint just before 2:00 a.m. by 2 Thai men as he walked down Soi 2 towards Pattaya Beach. He claimed that the thieves stole his watch, 20,000 Baht in cash, mobile phone and a digital camera with a combined value of 100,000 Baht.

But police became suspicious as the Brit started to change his story as they were writing up the report. Police then went to the scene and spoke to people and they claimed nothing had happened and didn’t see the Brit. Police then checked the tourists room and what a surprise. All of the items said to be stolen were in the room. The Brit then confessed to making up the story so that he file a false travel insurance claim.

Commentary: Is it something about the humid air in Pattaya that turns people stupid? Hope his travel insurance covers lawyers fee’s. But I just want to know one thing. What travel insurance policy covers the theft of cash?
