Tourists at Hooters Surrounded By Police..

From the Phuket Gazette is the story of 2 tourists and their 2 young children that were surrounded by ten policemen in flak jackets as they were waiting to eat a meal at Hooters Restaurant. They were quickly ushered out and herded to the police station.

The cause for all the excitement? Apparently police had witnessed the tourists get into an illegal taxi. The police wanted the tourists to sign documents and have their photo taken pointing at the illegal taxi driver. To make matters worse there wasn’t even one English speaking policeman on duty so the tourists had no real idea what was going on. Police later apologized for the confusion but warned tourists not to take illegal taxis. Legal taxis have either green or yellow license plates.

Commentary: Not exactly the best way to encourage tourism.
