Police Increase Stops of Foreigners on Asoke Rd.

From the Nana Journals blog there is a post from Stickman and one of his readers about the increase of police checks stopping and searching foreigners in around Asoke road and Sukhumvit. Apparently it’s getting so bad that one foreign restaurant manager is hearing daily complaints from customers about the police checks. A reader added that he was stopped 5 times riding a motorbike from Silom to Sukhumvit and that another guy riding on the back of a motorbike taxi was stopped and made to do a pee test at 4pm in the afternoon! (Don’t ask me how they do a pee test on the street because I have no idea).

Commentary: My best advice is to be damn sure you’re carrying a copy of your passport or carry the original in a waterproof belt wallet under the trousers. But I can tell you I always carry a small map of the Sukhumvit area. Why? I don’t want to be stuck on Sukhumvit and Asoke in the middle of the night while the cops check taxi’s for foreigners. There are some side Soi’s (like Soi 15) that can take you off Sukhumvit and get you around the police check point and back to Asoke road without losing any quality time with your honey as you head back to your hotel or a disco.
(Print the map and carry it with you guys).
