Phuket Tuk-Tuk Charges 200 Baht for 20 Baht Fare..

From the Phuket Gazette is the story of a 20 year old Australian and his friend that sought a ride with a Tuk-Tuk driver to take them to Central Festival in Phuket. According to the Australian the Tuk-Tuk driver told him it would be 20 Baht each. However, once they arrived at Central Festival the driver demanded 200 Baht each! Needless to say the Australian was not happy and had a few words to say about it. The Tuk-Tuk driver eventually punched the Aussie in the face giving him a busted lip and a bloody nose. Apparently the Tuk-Tuk driver then drove off but later turned himself into police. According to police this kind of altercation gives Phuket a bad name and harms tourism.

Commentary: 200 Baht each for a Tuk-Tuk in Phuket? Oh hell no! That’s one reason I only use Tuk-Tuk’s for short straight runs down a long Soi. I don’t trust most of the thieving bastards to drive me further than that!
