German Tourist in Phuket Nearly Decapitated by Boat...

From the Phuket Gazette we have the story of what must be the luckiest foreign tourist in Thailand. On Wednesday the German tourist was swimming off Karon Beach in Phuket when he nearly lost his head to the propeller of a longtail boat. Miraculously the propeller just sliced the side of his head without causing life threatening injuries.

Nearby jet-ski operators were able to rescue the German and get him to the beach. The German remembers being struck by the boat but nothing else until he woke up in the hospital where he is recovering. Police have said if the Germans recovery is less than 20 days then the boat operator will be charged with careless driving causing minor injury. If the tourist is in the hospital longer than 20 days the charge will be careless driving resulting in serious injury.

Commentary: A charge of careless driving? The boat nearly decapitated the tourist! How about banning the boat captain from anything more than a rubber raft!
