Phuket Bungee Jump Kills Kuwaiti Tourist…..

From Yahoo Travel News we have the story of a 25 year old Kuwaiti tourist that decided to go bungee jumping in Phuket. The bungee operator uses a crane over a safety pond making it the highest bungee jump in Phuket.

According to local news reports the tourist’s initial plunge was successful. That was the good news. The bad news is when he bounced back up the straps around his ankles broke and then the tourist plunged 200 feet back to the ground missing the safety pond by just a few feet.

Instead of calling for an ambulance the bungee operators picked up the tourist and placed him in the back of a pick-up to drive him to the hospital where he died shortly after arrival of a broken neck.

Patong province mayor told local news that she had been diligent in making sure bungee operators had equipment inspections. However, the owner of the bungee company admitted that he had been operating the bungee jump business without permission, registration or insurance of any kind for nearly 13 years! In just the last month 262 people had bungee jumped at this illegal and uninsured bungee jump location prompting questions once again about tourist safety in Thailand.

Commentary: WTF! They loaded a tourist with a broken neck into the back of a pick-up truck for the drive to the hospital? No doubt that helped to kill the tourist! The Thai bungee operator ran a bungee jump business without any kind of licensing or insurance of any kind for 13 years and no local government official noticed??? Or if they did notice then perhaps someone got themselves an extra bonus check once a month? Just another reason to remind you guys that you had better make sure you’ve got emergency medical coverage before going to Thailand! Safety is up to you! Don’t count on anyone else to keep you alive because they won’t! If anything they’ll probably unintentionally contribute to your death!
