Is this the beginning of the end for Walking Street? Bars ordered to rip down signs! WTF?

Pattaya One News reports that bars, entertainment places and shops in Walking Street have been ordered to take down their neon advertising signs by the end of the month. The order comes in a letter to all businesses in the famed South Pattaya street from deputy mayor Apichart Weerapan. Bar owners are furious and say the move will have an adverse effect on their businesses. Bars have been told that many signs are illegal and represent a danger and are “obstacles”.

Commentary: Will the last bar monger to leave Pattaya please turn off all the lights on Walking Street? Thanks! Seriously though, let’s hurry up and have an election and return control of Pattaya and the other entertainment spots in Bangkok and Phuket back over to civilian authorities without army oversight so that once again some palms can be greased to put the “Happy” back in the “Happy Zones!” The way things are going pretty soon Walking Street is going to be like staying home and we'll call it "Boring Street". What's next banning welcome girls and their signs and draft beer?Screw it, this is just another reason why I’m headed to Angeles City in October. I don’t like things too safe, civilized, neat and orderly. Lol..
